Congregation Shir Shalom Choir

(Choir rehearsal – with social distancing)

From Cantor Kanarek: In the past, we’ve had an evening of music and companionship each year as we gathered before Selichot for a congregational coffee house. Due to Covid, we’ve missed the past two years- BUT I’m proud to present (for the first time!), Congregation Shir Shalom’s choir, led by MIrel Verhoeff, singing together (while socially distanced) in our sanctuary. Check out these videos!

We are excited to announce that the choirs from the former MJC and NHC have merged under the direction of Mirel Verhoeff (Choir Director, for over 15 years at MJC), and in collaboration with Cantor Kanarek. We look forward to our choir becoming a permanent and vibrant part of Congregation Shir Shalom (“song of peace”).

Rehearsals typically are held Thursday evenings from 8:00pm to 9:15pm, with the goal of not only providing music for the High Holidays and other special programs, but also to occasionally enhance our services (for example on Shabbat Shira) and eventually perform at other community events.

Please let Mirel know if you would like to be a part of our choir. You do not need to be able to read music, and all ‘voices’ are needed!

For more info, and to sign up, please contact Mirel by email at  (Be sure to put in the email subject line that you would like to join the choir so that your message doesn’t look like spam.)
