What sets Nanuet Hebrew Center apart is we are large enough to serve you, while still being small enough to know you.
Nanuet Hebrew Center (NHC) is recognized as one of the first synagogues in the NY Metropolitan Area to replace its traditional membership dues with a “self directed” voluntary commitment pledge structure. And, after several years in place, our synagogue couldn’t be more pleased. The new voluntary pledge structure has enabled our congregation to be more open, inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of financial or personal situation.
Located in New City, just off exit 10 of the Palisades Parkway, Nanuet Hebrew Center is convenient to all points in Rockland and Northern Bergen Counties. In addition, with its rich, 75+ year history, Nanuet Hebrew Center is a valuable resource for our entire Community. This includes religious services, along with a wide range of educational, social and social action programs for all ages.
We are a multi-generational, egalitarian Conservative Jewish Center with approximately 300 congregant families, and are affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland. We strive to be welcoming to all, including the unaffiliated, intermarried families, those with special needs and LGBTIQA+ community. Regardless of your background, our doors are open and we encourage you to join us for our services and programs.
Operating in partnership with Montebello Jewish Center (MJC), our joint “MAKOM” religious school offers the Greater Rockland Community innovative curriculum from it’s free Pre-K and Kindergarten programs up through Bar/Bat Mitzvah age, along with very active award winning USY and Kadima Youth Groups [also offered in partnership with MJC].
NHC further offers stimulating adult education, enriching educational and social programming and camaraderie through our Sisterhood and Men’s Club, a regular schedule of Tot Shabbats and Junior Congregation services, evening Minyans on Sundays through Thursdays, plus Sunday morning Minyans, Friday evening and Saturday morning Shabbat services, and holiday services. Due to the coronavirus, we temporarily have shifted a majority of our programming and services over to online – utilizing, as appropriate, Zoom, Facebook Live and other webinar formats.
We invite you to join us for our services and programs; and, if you are not familiar with our beautiful facilities, we encourage you to visit us for a tour, and to meet our clergy, educational director, officers, staff and congregants. We also welcome you to join us for a Shabbat meal.

Congratulations and Mazal Tov to all of our esteemed honorees at NHC’s annual Journal Awards Ceremony that was held on May 31st. Due to coronavirus, this year’s event was held online using “Zoom”. It was a wonderful and well attended virtual event and we wish to thank everyone who joined us. We also wish to thank all of our congregants, family, friends and others from the community who supported us and our honorees with congratulatory ads in the beautiful online Journal and helped make it such a tremendous success.
Please note that as we are still receiving ads, we will continue to update the online Journal. Also, because we are able to make ongoing updates, if you have not yet placed your ad and do wish to, it is not too late to be included in the next update. Please contact Kari in the NHC Office to place your ad (845-708-9181 / firstname.lastname@example.org).
