What sets Congregation Shir Shalom apart is we are large enough to serve you, while still being small enough to know you.

There’s a brand new and dynamic synagogue in Rockland County: Congregation Shir Shalom.

Congregation Shir Shalom came into being on July 1, 2021 as a result of the consolidation of Montebello Jewish Center and Nanuet Hebrew Center, two like-minded Rockland-based Conservative Jewish Synagogues.

As these two synagogues have always evidenced great caring for Jewish life and have been forward thinking in their actions, it’s easy to understand their belief that as Congregation Shir Shalom, they are stronger together. They have not only combined their congregations, but continue to share their outlook and gear their efforts toward safeguarding the culture and values of Conservative Judaism so that it can be sustained for current and future generations.

Congregation Shir Shalom utilizes a self-directed (voluntary commitment) pledge structure rather than relying on a traditional dues model for affiliation. This pledge structure enables the synagogue to be more open and inclusive regardless of financial or personal situation. As a congregation, we further strive to be welcoming to all, including the unaffiliated, intermarried families, those with special needs and the LGBTIQA+ community.

Congregation Shir Shalom (which is housed at the former Nanuet Hebrew Center location) is centrally located in Rockland County, just off Exit 10 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway.  While we look to, and are enthusiastic about our thriving future as Congregation Shir Shalom, we will always remember and draw on our rich 80+ year histories serving the greater Rockland Community as Nanuet Hebrew Center and Montebello Jewish Center. What sets us apart is that we are large enough to serve you, while still being small enough to know you on a first-name-basis.

We are a multi-generational, egalitarian Conservative Jewish center with approximately 300 congregant families, and are affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, and the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland. Regardless of your background, our doors are open, and we encourage you to join us for our services and programs.

Makom, our religious school, offers an innovative curriculum and experiential program from Pre-K and Kindergarten (which are both free) up through Bar/Bat Mitzvah age. Congregation Shir Shalom also offers award winning CenterRock USY and Kadima Youth Groups, adult education and programs, a vibrant and active Sisterhood and Men’s Club, Hazak Group (for 65+), weeknight and Sunday morning and evening minyans, and Shabbat and holiday services.

We invite you to visit us in person, or visit and “like” us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ShirShalomRockland and become part of our extended family.
